Courses Offered by Indian Institute of Packaging, India

COURSES FOR CAREER IN PACKAGING offered by Indian Institute of Packaging, India

The Institute (IIP) is also a Founder Member of Asian Packaging Federation and a Member of the World Packaging Organisation.

Indian Institute of Packaging (IIP) offers a variety of Educational Courses to cater to fresh Graduates in Science and Technology as well as Practicing Professionals in the Industry.

Following are the Career oriented Educational Courses offered by the Institute:

1) 3-Months Full Time Certificate Programme in Packaging :

The course is suitable for fresh Diploma/ Graduates in any discipline who desire to make a career in Packaging Business / Profession. The programme comprises of classroom sessions by Institute’s own and guest faculty, with visits to industries for study of various packaging processes and technologies. The course opens good opportunities in Packaging Industry. The course is attended by a number graduates from business families as well as others, & persons from overseas countries.

On successful completion of the course, the candidate is awarded a Certificate, which is accredited by Asian Packaging Federation.

This 3-month course is conducted at Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai, Hydrabad and Kolkata every year during July–December period.


2) Two-Year Full Time Post Graduate Diploma in Packaging :

This course is open to all Graduates in Science, Technology and Engineering and allied fields. The admission is through all India Level Entrance Examination conducted in June every year in all metro cities. Admission Forms are available in April and the course begins in August.
The course is conducted at Mumbai and Delhi.

The course has 4 semesters, 3 of which are at the Campus of the Institute while, for the 4th semester Students work on projects in different industries in the country. After successfully passing the required examinations held in every semester and industrial training, the Students are awarded Post Graduate Diploma in Packaging.

3) Distance Education Programme (Correspondence Course) :

This is an 18-month course starting in January every year is designed for working executives who are Graduates /Diploma-holders in different disciplines but need packaging knowledge by virtue of their job requirements.

Successful candidates are awarded a Graduate Diploma in Packaging Technology, accredited by Asian Packaging Federation (APF).


4) Executive Development Programmes (EDP) :

These are short-term programmes of 1-day to 1-week duration conducted in various industrial cities in the country. These programmes are designed for working Executives as well as Professionals needing to update their knowledge.

Post Graduate Courses in Printing & Packaging in India

There are very few institutes which are offering Post Graduate programme in Printing Technology.

1. Department of Printing Technology, Guru Jambheshwar University of Science & Technology, Hisar is offering 2-years M. Tech. (Print & Graphic Communication) in regular mode from session 2006-07.

2. Department of Printing Technology, Anna University, Chennai is offering
A) 2-years M. E. (Printing and Packaging) in regular mode from 2009-10.
B) M. S. (By Research).

Eligibility condition for admission in P. G. Degree is B. Tech. / B. E. in Printing Technology.

Smt. Geeta Bhukkal - Cabinet Minister, Govt. of Haryana will look after the Printing & Stationary.

Its a matter of pleasure for printing professionals that the Govt. of Haryana has given the Printing & Stationary as Part of Cabinet Minister Portfolio.

Smt. Geeta Bhukkal will look after Education and Languages, Social Justice and Empowerment, Women and Child Development, Welfare of Scheduled Castes and Backward Classes, Health, Printing and Stationery.

Smt. Geeta Bhukkal will look after this trade as Cabinet Minister in Govt. of Haryana. Hope this will benefit printing and allied industries and print professionals in large.

This move will open a new window for this profession. After this move other state and Central government will stop ignoring this profession and will start making ministers for this trade.

In India there are various level of courses available in different institutes / Universities. Similar to other engineering disciplines there are following course available in this field.

1. Post Graduate Courses:

A) M. Tech.(Print & Graphic Communication)
B) M. E. (Printing and Packaging)
C) M. S. (By Research)

2. Post Graduate Diploma Courses:

A) Post Graduation Diploma in Book Publishing
B) Post Graduation Diploma in Packaging Technology

3. Under Graduate Courses:

A) B. Tech. / B.E. (Printing Technology)*
B) B. Tech. (Packaging Technology)*
C) B. Tech. (Printing Packaging & Graphics)


* - Students can be admitted in second year directly after completing three years diploma course.

4. Diploma Level Courses:

A) Diploma in Printing Technology
B) Diploma in Packaging Technology
C) Diploma in Book Publishing

5) ITI / Certificate Course/Basic Training Courses:

There are too many courses available in different ITI's and in Basic Training institutes offering 1-2 years certificate courses in various segments in Printing & Packaging, like Book Binding, Plate-making, Camera Operation, Offset Printing, Printing machine Minding, Cylinder-making etc.

6) Short term training Programmes:

There are many private institutes / printing organisation offering specialised training programmes in various specialty areas like Heidelberg, IPP Star, IFRA, AIFMP, Delhi Printer's Association, Thomson Press, Don Basco, etc. Some of them are made for working professionals only.

It is relevent to mention here that only one institute is offering Research Programme in Printing Technology, but some serious efforts are being made to explore some research programmes in leading Universities offering Printing Technology.
